I've got two machines, a laptop and a desktop, both running an up-to-date
Progeny that are quite happy with the Potato builds from kde.debian.net. In
fact, they perform better than the SuSE 7.1 machine I've got with
Suse-7.1-specific RPM's of KDE 2.1.1.
fwiw, ymmv, but I'd say given a clean install and a generally well-behaved
machine you should have no problems.
