Yes - it's probably a problem with Acrobat; being able to also display the
plot.pdf file in my browser is a red herring.  Process monitor shows
AcroRd32.exe being launched by jconsole but the display window does not
appear anywhere I can see. Pointing to the plot.pdf file in my browser also
lets me see it but Acrobat having a hold on it prevents me from displaying
a new plot which is why I have to kill the non-displaying Acrobat reader in
order to see a new plot.
