Raul has likely given you good advice. In looking for an alternative I may have either been successful or might just be confusing, but this is what I learned.
There files in j6 and j7 named jzopenglutil.ijs which attempt to deal with key entry directly. In the j6 version the key verbs are named gscharWDW, gscharJava, and gskey. In the j7 version the key verbs are named gschar and gschar_gtk.
