I was under the impression that J7 would give more control in this area but haven't had a chance to look into it. If you are working on this (J7 GUI), post your code to the Wiki and solicit help there as I imagine a lot of people would like to do something with this but find it hard to start from scratch, so this may get some concrete feedback.
