Most Islamic democracies fall under the first definition, leading many to
dismiss the compatibility of Islam with democracy. If democracy is for the
people, of the people and by the people, Islam prohibits many areas on which
these fundamentals can not be practised. In Islam only God reserves the right
to make laws while in democracy people make laws. As these are exact opposites
of each other democracy (as understood in West) is incompatible with Islam.
This prohibition of Law making by people is reiterated in many verses from
Quran,
