Out of curiosity, why is such a long board needed, or, more to the point, 
why would two boards wired together (or wired together with flex cable), 
and then stiffened if necessary, not be appropriate, given that very long 
boards probably cost substantially more?

I *can* think of possible answers to this question, but ....
