The question was asked because what Mr. Witherite suggests can be unnecessarily cumbersome, one must navigate to the file in question, it is not always as simple as File/Open. If one already has an icon for the file visible, either through Explorer or though some other means that supports drag-and-drop, it is a convenience to be able to directly add the ddb to one's session without having to figure out the path, etc. Perhaps the file arrived as a e-mail attachment and one does not necessarily intend to move it into one's design file structure (where, presumably, File/Open would already be, more or less, pointing by default).
