I have made various solder shunt jumpers used to select resistors, capacitors, or to be shorted after tuning. The first versions I made used Cu arcs and traces to form 2 half moons with a 6 mil gap. These worked ok until a version change in protel and then editing the footprint primitives to the correct net became easier if the shape is all traces. I now use small triangles with a 6 mil gap. My intention with the semicircle and triangle structures is to have the solder surface tension tend to bridge the gap. I place a small top layer pads within the triangles for the netlist to attach to. When using a three position structure I have made the center contact rectangular. I made these jumpers for solder stencil controlled positioning. As far as I am aware all are applied manually at this time. I think there would be no problem finding an amount of over stenciling of paste so that these jumpers form during reflow. Dave Eloranta Locus Inc. Madison, WI

I didn't do it either, but would be interested in any experience with such a technique. Emanuel Watnoski, Michael wrote: > adding wires.
