you could try to export the darn thing, but then again that could bounce on the fact that the file is open 'by another user' (yourself, in fact).

Another idea might be to reduce the auto-backup interval and try to tease that way it into making one extra backup, then let it crash and use that backup.

I had the same type of problem, but lucky for me that was on a teeny-weeny post stamp type of project with only a few components......
