Gerber does have a command for drilled slots, but Protel can't generate it.
I'd find this a bit surprising, since gerber is a pure graphics format and doesn't have *any* hole commands. That is, gerber can include *graphics* information that might be used by a designer to indicate a hole or slot, but not actual slot information.
The terms "hole," "drill," "mill", and "slot" do not appear in the RS-274X specification index and glossary.
There might be an *Excellon* command for slots, it would not surprise me at all.
