I use Saffire Pro40. It has knobs for each channel as well as two

It is affordable, too, and can be used with Protools and any other software.

Just because I expressed my own personal reservations about the Icon stuff
doesn't mean it's a black sheep. It's a viable option for anybody who does
their research and feels it's a good solution. I can't personally endorse it
but that doesn't mean anything other than that. You should feel free to

I'm looking in the same general price range for a control surface.
Any ideas?

Hello, I know this is a old thread. But could not figure out how to
post a new thread. So I am asking what surface controller would you
recommend for a beginner? I am getting ready to buy ProTools 12. I am
currently using a Mac book Pro with a I five processor and 8 GB of RAM
and one terabyte hard drive. I am looking for something that will be
easy to use, also, will be able to input drums microphones for my drum
set any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks note: looking at a price range from $700-$1500.

There are 8 rows of 18 keys and as far as I know there are no
tactile markings so I think it would be real easy to get lost with
a keyboard of that size.

You are confusing the Hot Key Metrix with the Editor Keys pro Tools
keyboard. The Editors Key Pro Tools keyboard is a standard computer
keyboard with the Pro Tools hotKeys printed on each key along with
the the normal letters of the keyboard. Its basically a cheat sheet
for a sighted person so they won’t have to remember all the
keyboard shortcuts.
The hot key matrix is a controller that only has buttons and each
of pro tools functions are assigned to a button so they can be done
in a single button press. i think the hot key matrix has something
like 145 or something buttons on it.

I thought that these were more for sighted folks so that they
could just have a visual aid to be able to use the native Pro

Not quite a control serfice but almost, any of you using or used
a
Hotkey Matrix before?
As I understand it's basically a keyboard and all keys have
dedicated
functions in PT, so there's no key with 2 or more functions by
using
modifier keys etc. I'm just wondering if it will be useful and
whether
it will be possible to memorise the layout of all keys.

for as far as I can see, other services use the same protocols as

I searched for this in the manual, and automation is taken care

I will test this Myself soonly. If it works as good as the avid
