Hi Brian,

The peak meter is technically more accurate but only to a fraction of a 
decibel. It makes no real difference in the big picture. Recording levels are 
never set to such a small adjustment. No matter which meter is referenced, 
recording levels should be set conservatively to leave plenty of headroom. 
We're talking on the order of 10 decibels or so. Therefore, a meter, even if 
it's technically off by a quarter of a dB, is plenty accurate. The important 
difference between the two meters is that one is designed to only give  you a 
peak value while the other is designed to show average levels with the 
capability of maintaining the highest achieved peak. Since we now have access 
to that peak meter, the average levels are only accessible through the normal 
level meter so using the two to display different information is the best 
scenario.
