Ok. hello. I am quite deseperated with the installation of Pure Dyne. I cant make it run nor on a stick nor on a partition of my disc. I have a macbookpro unibody with os X.5.8. But I hav no clue with linux, terminal and so on. Just copying the contents didn't really make it...
having one to test on would help i guess, but you might have to wait a bit for this one,
myself i'm not buying apple hardware anymore :-)
6 months ago I found puredyne, since there every month I spend 2 days trying to understand, looking in forums and so. I dont have windows or linux, thought I have to had a linux to make a bootable (apple disk utility says error 254 if I want to restore), but even didn't suceed on that. Downloaded slax, refit, and so on.
if you just download the iso, you can burn with disk utility.
refit you need indeed, then install debian, and add pure dyne packages.
this is explained on the wiki (under -getting pure:dyne).
this was tested on a macbook and a macmini.
with the macbook pro you have to solve the problem of the videocard driver,
i'm sure some people have experience with that.
I work visuals with quartz, and give workshops for starting arstists in mexico. I want to know more about open source in art to give it to this people (i like a lot the concept behind goto10). Thatfore I have to learn a lot.... So I thought pureDyne would be the perfect way of a) give them open source tools, and b) start standarized despite of different computers. I would like to give them a USB with pure dyne at the end of every workshop, but cant even make the first for me! And wpuld like to have a dual boot on my machine, so I can run pure dyne (and backtrace) from it.
You mean, Quartz Composer ? That's an osx-only tool that doesn't quite fit in the open-source spirit.
This is because of apple's licensing, which is not GPL.
It therefore will never run on linux. There are interesting alternatives that you could have a look at however such as pure data with its numerous plugins for visuals (GEM, PDP etc), or proce55ing, maybe fluxus.

Just a suggestion of course, but especially for teaching it makes sense to use FLOSS tools if you want to bring -the message- accross, and promote a creatives' independence from software merchants.

jk

Any help for this absolute noob in typing commands will be greatly apreciated....

greetings, now from berlin

Andres
