Yarg! Sorry to dredge up this old post (I check this list about
monthly), but this really bugs me. If you set one color, set them all!
It's really helpful for people using Netscape. (I have no idea about
other browsers). I like to read white on black and use white link
colors, but it's really impossible with Netscape because:
a. Many people set their background color to white without also
changing both the text color and the link color.
b. Netscape doesn't go back to default colors for unspecified colors --
it will stupidly mix partially specified web page settings with whatever
the user has chosen locally, which ends up making a mess.
For this specific case, set all four colors if you set any of them
and/or if you set a background. And in general, messing with HTML with
a "try and see what happens" approach means you are very likely to be
breaking a lot of people's browsers...... Be conservative, if you want
the general public to be able to use your page!
