I have a sneaky suspicion that RedHat (at least) may have moved the
sound stuff somewhere else. I really despair of them: once upon a time
they had a great distribution. Now they seem to see breaking standards
compliance as some sort of duty! 

If you want to phrase the issue a bit more formally (without the "eat
sh*t...."!) and in a bit more detail, I'll be happy to forward it to the
Happy Hackers *nix group: there are people there who live RedHat.
