Thanks for the info. I just downloaded, installed, and run it from my XP machine.
Results: The VM that comes with the server bundle is 3.1a1 which will sometimes time out on the images. This was a problem which has been fixed a while ago. The current "stock VM" (3.1a6 without the recent fixes) appears to work fine on XP. However, this _may_ be due to scheduling differences between XP and 2K (turns out XP does have "just another" totally crazy scheduling strategy going on ... argh!!!).
