I just tried the 1.2alpha1 on my machine with OS X 10.8, bundled Python 
(2.7.2), and the examples I have tried work. I've tried astraea.py and 
opengl.py, and they appear to work just fine. I'm running on an iMac 
(27-inch, Mid 2010). 

I thought I'd look at the problem with the missing windows, but since they 
are not missing for me, it's hard to find the problem.
