Just remembered something from my experience last year, and I thought it would be relevant to share. From the IRC office hours before the start of GSoC and Outreachy last year:
@Niharika: Bonus points for asking silly questions, so don't be afraid.
@Aklapper (andre__): Ask! Don't be shy! And no question is "stupid" or such, no worries please!
The was the attitude of the community that welcomed me into the Wikimedia movement and that's the one I'd want to be part of. :) I'm sure you all would agree.
