Thanks. It worked. There's still a discrepancy between the time mplayer reports for a frame and the thumbnail preview qdvdauthor shows for that time, but it's minor. The actual movie is the correct length and I can fiddle with the preveiew thumbnails to get them to work.
On my copy of qdvdauthor the setting is changed in Tools | Setup on the General tab where there is a pulldown for the media engine. Selecting the QMPlayerWidget seems to have done the trick. On another topic, I'd like to have movie buttons of different sizes and shapes but that doesn't seem to be supported (yet). In fact, movie thumbnails don't even necessarily correspond to the size/shape I selected (as displayed by the frames when a button is selected). Is this on the enhancement list?
