I have just found this email.

Your diligence is to be commended.

However you can never prove that it makes no difference without checking each 
change and seeing whether it makes any material difference to the output.
Even then you have to be infallable in your checking.

I know George compared the rel files by overlaying one with the other to see 
what the changes are. He as also altered the source so that Gwass and QMac 
produce the Qmac result where Qmac changes the source to what it thinks you 
require instead of what the source techniquely requires.

We know that Gwass reduces all jumps etc to their shortest form, but this has 
been tested so much George knows that it works properly.

George and I have been running the Gwass versions for at least 2 years now.
We have not had any problems.
In fact George and I run nothing else.

However the normal procedure is to issue the changes as a beta version.
The more testers the more the more certain of finding a bug if one exists.
