But first, I have to find new drivers for my old Benq5000 scanner.
The manufacturer's site lists no drivers for Win7 64-bit and the
driver on CD does not work either, even using the compatibility
assistant for drivers, so I may have to do this using the old PC :-(
You may be able to load drivers and run your scanner in a virtual machine.
I did that successfully with a device attached to USB, for which there
was no 64bit driver, in a VirtualBox machine sporting W2k.
Ah yes, I hadn't thought of doing it that way.
But as it turns out it might not be necessary - my partner Ann has a HP
PSC1510 multifunction with her computer which has just died on her, although
I have managed a temporary repair so she can use up the remaining
cartridges, so she's bought a wireless Epson multifunction which we can
share (yippee, no more buying Epson AND HP cartridges) and my Epson Stylus
880 can be the cabled backup and QL printer for a while as I have stacks of
inkjet cartridges for it which I bought at rock bottom prices a while back.
Actually, the Stylus 880 is great because (a) it has ESC/P2, (b) compatible
cartridges are ultra cheap, (c) it has both parallel and USB connections,
meaning it can be connected to the Minis-QL SGC PAR port and the PC's USB at
the same time and print from either, as long as both don't try to print same
time - both PC and Super Gold Card lock up if I do that by mistake.
Dilwyn - abusing his poor printers! but celebrating after Wales beat Darren
Branagh and Urs Koenig's mobs at rugby and soccer yesterday and today :-))))
