I have a spare copy of the manual (on paper of course), you may have
noticed this if you have run Hyper Browse and looked at the XHTML
e-magazine given away free with the demo. Lightning SE (Special
Edition) provides faster versions of OS routines, thereby speeding
things up, and therefore will speed up a gold card system. Lightning SE
also speeds Minerva to some extent and adds some new features as well.
The ROM version only contains the Text speed ups, not the Math and the
Graphics. Also ROM and RAM will be at different speeds. I unfortunately
have not had time to benchmark lightning yet. I have been told that
Lightning is not compatible with SGC.
