Hi,

High-colours mode works all right for me (Windows 98 SE).
Of course, I always start QPC2V2 in high colours.
If You start QPC2V2 in high colours mode, SMSQE runs in mode 32, else in
mode 4.
In my boot, I have something like this:

IF RMODE=32 and VER$(1)>='2a98': colour_pal:endif

But if you start QPC2V2 in QL colours, DISP_COLOUR 3 and COLOUR_PAL( or
COLOUR_NATIVE) are needed.
After that, all programmes seem to work as normal, except the PROWESS ones
(they fire up, but their windows are completely black).

COL_obj works fine (even in mode 4) if you avoid pressing R,G,B (for red,
green, blue).

Does your graphics card allow high colours?
Do you allocate enough memory to QPC2V2?

Hope this helps.
