I have no helpful ideas whatsoever on this problem. Otherwise I would have
sorted it out on my own behalf any time these last four years ;(   For my
own work, which is somewhat less demanding than assembling and linking smsq,
I use Qmake v1.35, the latest version I have that does not misbehave in this
way. Up to version 2.something everything worked as expected. Since then,
all successive udates/grades have displayed the same symptoms accross my
systems. Now that I (too) know Im not alone, perhaps we can get this issue
sorted at last.
