Well theoretically, once the connection is open then you can use an XP machine as a gateway instead of the router (I use the router even for modem-based calls and AOL is definitely not compatible with that)
But that also would mean that the Qx0 will serve the XP but also be served by the XP (as a method of internet connection that is)
