Hi Jon, I was thinking of doing the same during QL USA 2004. Hopefully some visitors will bring their std Hermes equipped QLs.Ah that reminds me. Can I borrow a QL/power supply/monitor/lead from you?
I have a spare QL US PSU here (thanks to Bill Cable), and a nice PAL/NTSC Video to VGA converter here. (No monitor though as the one US Vision QL monitor that was available at the last show from Al, somebody else wanted although I wanted it badly ;-) I will hopefully have a USA QL (in exchange for a UK QL that I do have here). Currently I have two UK QLs here (one with SchÃn keyboard, soon to be converted to SGC/Aurora/QubIDE) so you are welcome to any of these. I do have an extra VGA monitor (small) and if Bill is kind enough we could get one of his flat panels (as my main monitors are 19" and 21" respectively and the car will definitely be packed ;-). I can get along with only one monitor as I will also bring a KVM switch. In the meantime, I am fitting (again) my Q40 inside a SV-24 Shuttle XPC case (the shoebox) so that it will look neat and take minimal space ;-)
I will have mine (and a modem) available at the show -as well as the Qx0 on display using soQL with at least two US ISPs sending and receiving email. As I do not know if there is going to be a modem line available, I plan on connecting the serial directly to a Motorola Timeport's internal modem via a serial cable (I haven't tried yet my Nokia phones for that but the Motorola works just fine). And if there's no signal at the room, then I guess will do a hotel-room demonstration ;-) hehe...I will be bringing a wifi access points and two pci wifi cards, and a good length of RJ45 cable. Could we install this on your PC? What speed is your Motorola connection? I guess though it is not free. Could you also bring a PC set up with a free AOL sub? That might give us two internet connections.
I wasn't going to bring the PC with me (as the Q40 and QL are enough) but I can have the PC as well if that's required. I do have a couple of free 56K connections and I can install AOL on my throwaway PC ;-) (I reformat it every week or so as it is my daughter's PC and she messes it up often; she's only 3 after all ;-)
The Motorola will work up to 44000K (Says 56 K but you know ;-)
