Hi, I recently moved to debian stretch on a MacBookPro 12,1. Since QLandkarte GT looks a bit awkward on its retina (HiDPI) display (some icons are too small, some texts are not well placed, etc.), I gave QMapShack a try.
It looks much better than QLKGT on my screen, however I have to say I'm not totally convinced about how it manages vector maps. Specifically, QLKGT supported collections of *.img/.tdb files, while QMS works with a single large .img file, like Garmin devices do. I understand this is a simpler approach for some users, however when using maps from OpenMtbMap it's not the best option, especially when you take advantage of Europe map. Europe map contains data of the whole continent. You then need to create a sub-map of the area you need, to send it to your Garmin device. QLKGT allowed for the selection of the tiles you needed, as well as the creation of the resulting .img file. In QMS there isn't such an option. This means you need to still rely on the older application to do this job. (BTW you still need QLKGT to create the consolidate img file even if you don't use the Europe map, unless you resort to command line tools like gmt or mkgmap). The thing is QLKGT is no longer developed, and this means that in the future this useful feature will no longer be supported. I believe this is a pity. Have you considered reintroducing it somehow in QMS?
