1)  4.4.4 is not the current version.
2)  Since fetchmail isn't working correctly, have you checked:
  a) the fetchmail website   http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/fetchmail/  ?
  b) the fetchmail mailing list?
  c) the fetchmail FAQ?
