I don't think it would be wise to rely on your ip address staying the 
same when you have dhcp...  even though I have experience similiar 
results as you.  Because I leave my computer on all the time my ip 
address changes only about every 4 months.  I have also noticed that 
dynamic dns services can be some what unreliable at times.  Although I 
trust them enough to access information through them I do not always 
trust them to be there to receive information.  Your right.  This method 
is ineffecient, however it is exremely reliable and cost effective when 
your only dealing with a small amount of people (< 5).
