There are several sites that show how to make these changes, in fact, I made one myself for my customers. I have over 50 domains and an average of 30 users per domain. Yes, it's a painful pill to have to swallow but in a lot of cases you won't have any choice. It's better to get it over with now. I have also run into a few broadband providers that block port 25 all together (Comcast & RCN)! They only allow you to use 25 to their server or you use 587.
