Seriously, what is the fear of linux? People preferring to mess with virtualisation.. (well at least the suggest vmware isn't a performance hog) Still, installing VMWare or Cygwin is much more difficult than just installing a decent modern linux distrobution.
Using the two operating systems side by side might have some advantages, but likely just using linux for all development work is much a saner path. I guess, it's hard to explain the power of having all your tools integrated and having the freedom to tweak/change everything.. This is not meant to condemn windows as a developer unfriendly platform, but i simply do not understand the advocasy of jumping through hoops to stick with an operating system that is not designed to facilitate that. The only way to have any decent development environment on windows, it seems, is to use some sort of mega-uber-IDE. Where the ide almost has all features you would expect a decent operating system to provide and integrate. I guess all i'm trying to say, that in the long run, do yourself a favor and try linux as a _desktop_ platform for development. It keeps you sane.
