Even with qooxdoo there are a lot of problems with IE...
Are you sure it isn't just because you used non-qooxdoo tricks? There is a lot of stuff that you can do natively, or through a static qooxdoo function (the qx.util classes and qx.lang classes for example). > So you have the choose: > 1. Windows with Cygwin > 2. Windows with Virtualization > 3. Linux with Virtualization Wine is not an emulator. > Also vmware gives you 95% of the speed for most non-heavy hdd usage > applications that don't do much graphic. And to be the base for qooxdoo > development you need only an extrem small linux with python, autotools, > qooxdoo, smb and apache and everything is perfect. No gui needed, not much > hdd usage. You won't even feel the difference to a normal standalone > development server. You'll might also want to easily checkout qooxdoo-svn. Or host your own svn server for your own project. You likely also want to use a real text-editor, perhaps attach some shortcuts to certain scripts and operations? Now, things get messy unless your editor is also running on the virtualized linux. Since you want to quickly switch between testing and editing, you might want more than one desktop. Finally, you might want the server to start when you launch your computer. I'm not saying that it is impossible to create a nice workflow with separate development/work and build/server environment. But is it the easy way? Hell, no. It's more like a 'look at what i can do when i spent all weekend configuring everything'. You're better off with IE in wine as being the only non native element. Perhaps, i'm biased, but how does one effectively develop in windows? What kind of editor do you use? how do you hook it up with your svn server? how do you make it automatically build when you save a file or press a shortcut? How do you refresh 4 browsers at once in windows? How do you maintain more than one desktop? Maybe my knowledge is just lacking. Perhaps there is world of crappy shareware programs or uber-ide's (eclipse and visual studio come to mind) .. that take care of all those needs. I'm sorry if this offended anyone, i guess it's my tunnelvision. But IMHO using the best tool for the job means using a linux _desktop_ for development. It seems conceptually simpler than the complicated mix-and-match setups. The fact that all your development tools have linux as their native habitat should be a sign that the developers of those tools think the exact same thing. > I use three different plattforms (based on my need): > 1.
