Did you also try Derrell's other suggestion, using a custom color theme?!
That might be a good idea too (tweaking the appearance rather than the
behaviour), and it's really easy. If you haven't got custom themes
already, just create a new skeleton (with create-application.py) and copy
the theme over to your app.
