Hi all

Martin thanks for your response; I think Martin’s point here is particularly
valid:

> But as this is in the end a open source project, we would be happy if someone
> want to take care of that. Of course we would be available for discussions
> and for some help but most of the stuff could be done by the community as you
> know you needs best.

We’re all quite good at complaining (myself included) but we’re entirely
equipped to resolve it, and anyway shouldn’t the community by lead by the
community?

For the contrib issue, there are plenty of package manager solutions out there
as Christian pointed out previously, this shouldn’t be a wheel we need to
reinvent; the big sticking point has been how the generator is a closed system
and written in a foreign language, which affects how contribs are automatically
discovered and downloaded, but there are ways to wrap around it.

With the generator coming out in Javascript this should be something the
community can more easily add pull requests for if the core team don’t have
time for it, and someone (Richard?) said that the generator might be available
as an API anyway.

The need to auto-download might disappear altogether if qooxdoo was modularised
so that the developer choose what script plugins to load, IE as Petr & others
have suggested. Modularisation is also something else we can contribute to,
but IMHO depends a lot on access to dependency analysis (ie requires a
generator API) to define the modules, and to remove some unnecessary
dependencies between fundamental classes (which can be done by the community
with pull requests).

Regards
John
