Thank you for looking into this issue, we have also seen our automated build hang consistently for M2.
Note that we have never seen the 1.6 JVM hang and have for the moment moved to using that for testing M2.
I will move our build system to a 1.6 JVM and will report back our results, hopefully it'll match your experience.
