Granted, I don't know as much as some about these issues, but if your quote
that appears below is what is actually happening, then that is what's
causing the problem.
If Outlook (or Outlook Express) quits prematurely then it never issues the
command to actually delete the messages it just downloaded off of the
server. Therefore they hang around to be downloaded again.
The solution that we have found to this problem is to increase the server
timeout in Outlook's (and OE's) settings. Microsoft's default of one minute
is just not long enough for our mail servers. We have one server that we
need to crank up the server timeout to 2.5 to 3 minutes. On our slower
server, we have our customers increase it to the maximum of 5 minutes.
This has solved this problem for us, I don't know if it is your problem or
not.
