I think this thread has gone off in the wrong direction. Let's go back to
basics: if these helper tools are used by libraries, they cannot depend on the
application's settings.
So I don't see a way to provide anything beyond "system libexec"
(/usr/libexec:/usr/local/libexec) and also allow the user of QStandardPaths to
specify his/her own search paths.
