Actually, during post-mortem, Quackle shouldn't be DRAWING
any tiles for EITHER player. The whole point of doing a
post-mortem is that I already know what tiles I had, and
what plays were made during the game. The goal of post-
mortem is to see what I did right, what I did wrong, and
try to learn how to play better (i.e. more like Jason).
Anyway, this is an actual bug. I tell Quackle (just as I
always told Maven) EXACTLY what letters I had on my rack,
no matter how painful it may be to see the obvious plays
I missed during my games. I actually grade myself ("A-",
"B+", "B-", etc.) on plays, points, and equity. Sad to
say, the results are not always of expert caliber, as
will become clear in reviewing this "2*(IOPX)" game.
Separate Bug: it is possible to put 8 or 6 letters in
the "rack" field at the bottom of the Quackle screen,
without any objection from the program. The only time a
less-than-7 rack should be allowed is at the end of the
game, when the bag is empty and I'm down to fewer than 7
tiles (and Quackle should recognize that situation). At
the very least, Quackle should put up a dialog saying
"only N tiles on the rack - are you sure about that?"
Now, the game in question (P1 is me; P2 is opp):
P2: 8G FEU 12 (opponent went first)
P1: 'HIIKNNO' H3 HONKI(E) 14
P2: 6F WE(K)A 19, 31
P1: 'AILNRSW' J2 WAILS 32, 46
P2: G2 PUB 18, 49
P1: 'INRRRTU' 2B TURNI(P) 20, 66
P2: 5E YO 15, 64
P1: 'EEHRRRT' C1 H(U)RTER 18, 84
P2: 1H CESTA 33, 97
P1: 'BDENOQR' exch 'BDNOQ' keeping 'ER'
P2: 4A MA(T)ZO 43, 140
P1: 'EINORTU' 9A ROUTINE 65, 149
P2: A7 LA(R)GO 18, 158
P1: 'EEFLMO?' 1A FE(H) 29, 178
P2: exch 5
P1: 'CDELMO?' 10J MOC 17, 195 (sad, isn't it?)
P2: 4G (BO)V(I)NE 22, 180
P1: 'DDEELS?' L9 SLEDdED 78, 273 (2nd D is a blank)
P2: 2J (W)ITAN 20, 200
P1: 'AABEIQY' 15H BAYE(D) 33, 306
P2: C8 V(U)G 7, 207
P1: 'AEIIOQR' 13I QAI(d) 22, 328
P2: E8 D(I)LAtION 66, 273 (blank T)
P1: 'EGIORRX' ERRI(N)G 24, 352
P2: JEST(E)D 28, 301
P1: 'OX' and in the "kibitz" column on my scoresheet,
I have these notes: OX=29, OXO=26, LOX=33.
What I played was 5K (L)OX 33, 385. I think that was
best, but the problem is that I can't find out using
the current version of Quackle, because after JESTED,
it did a quick "+ 2*(IOPX)" for my opponent and would
not allow me to enter/sim/make another play.
Incidentally, if my mention of a "kibitz" column on my
scoresheet piques curiosity of any Quackle developers,
send me your snail-mail addy and I'll send you a blank
scoresheet and a copy of my scoresheet from this game.
Yes, I actually make written "reminder/planning" notes
to myself during my games. I'm getting old, and it
helps me to have notes on possible plays & scores :)
