Yea Tony it's very ugly.
I can't believe they gave 20 Medals of honor to what American History calls the "Battle of Wounded Knee" but there were according to our own documents women and children scattered for 2-3 miles shot dead obviously running away and by no means a threat.
Here's an interesting read from The Aberdeen Saturday Poineer on Jan. 3rd 1891.
"The PIONEER has before declared that our only safety depends upon the total extermination [sic] of the Indians. Having wronged them for centuries we had better, in order to protect our civilization, follow it up by one more wrong and wipe these untamed and untamable creatures from the face of the earth. In this lies safety for our settlers and the soldiers who are under incompetent commands. Otherwise, we may expect future years to be as full of trouble with the redskins as those have been in the past.
Sounds brutal but here's the twist the writers name is L. Frank Baum if that rings a bell you also know 9 years later he wrote a childrens book called "The Wizard of Oz"!

Here's quote straight from General E.D. Scott. The First Americans don't remember it like this. This is how American history remembers it.
Heyyy Mark....that's great you found that writing from Gen Scott. I remember vaguely being taught about our history with Native Americans, but "mentioning" it, and explaining the extent of it are two different things. I don't remember the teaching of marching thousands of Navajos in the cold to a desolate place where thousands starved, and many many other instances like this. I learned through the documentary that the word "Seminole" means "runaway" ....many of the Seminoles were Natives and slaves running away from the whites to the swamps n rivers of Florida...our army pursued them constantly, pushing them deeper south into the Everglades eventually. The small victories the Natives had over the army only gave the gov more reason to kill them...
pretty history, huh???
