Yea Tony it's very ugly.
I can't believe they gave 20 Medals of honor to what American History calls the "Battle of Wounded Knee" but there were according to our own documents women and children scattered for 2-3 miles shot dead obviously running away and by no means a threat.
Here's an interesting read from The Aberdeen Saturday Poineer on Jan. 3rd 1891.
"The PIONEER has before declared that our only safety depends upon the total extermination [sic] of the Indians. Having wronged them for centuries we had better, in order to protect our civilization, follow it up by one more wrong and wipe these untamed and untamable creatures from the face of the earth. In this lies safety for our settlers and the soldiers who are under incompetent commands. Otherwise, we may expect future years to be as full of trouble with the redskins as those have been in the past.
Sounds brutal but here's the twist the writers name is L. Frank Baum if that rings a bell you also know 9 years later he wrote a childrens book called "The Wizard of Oz"!
Mark
Damn Mark.....that's great stuff!! I love learning, or peeking, into the minds of history, and that's a wild to see an article like that....and to think that dude wrote "Wizard of Oz"
I'm listening to the band Cheap Trick....man, i love those Ilinois boys!! I just downloaded a CD's worth of stuff from iTunes. I like the more obscure songs...
