Yes I have a van.  I wrote all the issues with that in another post.  I have to wait for a driving instructor b/c the one that I had that told me to call when I was approved by the DMV is on medical leave and I have to wait until April because the woman that took over his cases has a full load of her own.  Im waiting for my Dad to get here to pay the mechanic so I can get my van.  Vocational rehab will give me some money for the van but the waiver program is going to have to eat most of the cost.  The mechanic that is approved by the waiver is not a company that vocational rehab uses to they have to apply to be a client of theirs which takes a couple of weeks.  I can go on and on River.  Voc rehab does pay for transportation but only if it's school or work.  It's up to me for everything else.  I don't care who is paying, it is wrong how I am treated.  The only thing is, my state rep is also on the board of the tri-county council who controls the transit so I am assuming he knows about the cost.  I'm not even considered door to door.  I'm curb to curb. If I am not on the curb, I get left.  There are some door to door, but I have forgotten to find out the difference.  I can't hear crap from inside my house is my only issue with that.  I don't know when they get to my house b/c I can't hear them beep.  Believe me I am furious about what is going on.  I'm going to contact ADAPT this week and see what can happen here.  I feel like a minority the way that I am treated and discrimination at that.

Stacy:

I can't believe all of the transportation problems you've had.  Worst
of of all you have a VAN!!!!!  FYI, I knew a VR counselor that paid to
repair a car for a client of mine, that was about 5 yrs ago, but it
happened.
They can certainly be more autonomous than they lead you to believe.
VR should definitely be paying for your transportation, here they will
give clients a voucher to use with the van company.  AS far as I'm
concerned that transport company needs to be sued for charging you more
because you need door-to-door.   But you know that ;-) I remember going
to school and having to fight so many things, it is very exhausting,
but will pave the way for someone else.  You did the right thing by
calling your State Rep, that should get things going.  This is
absolutely ridiculous.  You have my empathy, sympathy and, prayers.
Is there an Independent Living Center in your area?
Peace Out,

River
