Dan,   While I was in rehab my indwelling catheter started to erode my urethra so they started to cath me every six hours also.  When they would Cath me I would have anywhere between 1000 CC and 1500 CC of year in all the time, that his way too much for the bladder to hold.  They told me that since I was a construction worker my bladder was larger than most people because of the absence of toilets.  While all this was being done to me I had a perpetual UTI, which was driving me crazy.  I started leaking urine when my bladder was getting full and then all of a sudden I would urinate.  They told me that I am starting to get a spontaneous bladder and that they wanted to try condom catheter on me.  So, I guess answer to your question is.  If you bladder gets full and you urinate on your own use be able to use a condom catheter.  If you cannot urinate on your own then you are stuck with a Foley or a suprapubic.   Jim
