I don't think I was ever told. I do remember asking the doctor if I would be able to go back to school in September (it was the beginning of August), and he told me that if I did (big if) I would need canes or crutches.

I think age also has a big place in being told or not. I was only 15 at the time, and had no idea that it was something permanent. I kept thinking that with time, it would all heal up :) (And, I still do believe that I will walk one day.)

This brings back good old memories.... when I was first laid out by the swimming pool after the lifeguard got me out, I remember having my hand on my leg, and thinking it was real weird... that couldn't be my leg, since I didn't feel it.
