Howdy,

> I can use you all as a resource. Those of you that are on the waiver
or those that know about it enough to have formed an opinion maybe you
could answer some questions for me if your not to busy.

OK

> What evidence is there that the policy is/not effective?

It took me about 6 years to get into the program, I've only been on it
going into my 2nd mo. But it was an immeadiate relief on my family as I
now no longer have to rely on them to prepair my meals for me. I went
grocery shopping for the second time since my accident 9 years ago.

> What problems still exist?

Waiting period mostly (at least in Indiana).

> What are your recommendations to change the policy and why do you
think they would be better?

I don't know how they can effectively shorten the waiting list, but
that might be accomplished through combining all the seperate programs
(including Choice) under the MICCASSA Act with a Money Follows the
Person program which allows individuals to hire their own people
instead of going through a top heavy Agency. This would also save money
and increase the workers pay rate which would keep good workers and
attract more.

> And one I am confused about that is for me.

It is my theory they keep us in the dark on purpose. The less we know,
the less they have to provide.

> What is the theory of human behavior explicit or implicit in the
policy? What the heck does that mean? lol.

It may relate to a persons abilities (how much help they really need)
and attitude towards caregivers.

> The waiver works great for me, but I know there are a lot of you that
aren't happy. Those of you that don't get enough services, why not?
If something isn't working for you, I would like to know why or if a
service isn't given, why are they telling you you cant utilize it?

I don't have enough experience with the specific program yet to
properly address it. Imdo wish they'd send someone who knew how to cook
from scratch. It's amazing how many people lack even the most basic
survival skills. When I ask, they claim their mothers couldn't cook
either. Ohhhhhhhhh I want to move back to the mountains sooon bad...
But South Dakota lacks the resources. The Waiver is a State program and
varies greatly depending on where you live.

> This would be a huge help. I would love some instances to use from
people I care about.

Not much help, but I hope you can use some of it.
