Hey Lana,
Sometimes old tech still works fine, there's a lot of people here that use a mouthstick.

My bowels are slow also but you might want to try the Magic Bullet it helped me massively.

Andy,

Along with the SCI Gabe has CP and a severe speech impairment that hasn’t allowed him to use voice activated software. I’m hoping that as new stuff comes out and he gets interested he’ll join in. We are working on it. I’m putting a lot of time into switches and modifying the computer further. We’re going to try a mouth stick out. It’s outdated but we want to try everything.

I talked to the dr about slow motility and it’s been a bigger issue lately. I think I need to address this one. Gabe has real slow bowels and a partial blockage. It’s been worked on before. Because he has so many health problems they won’t correct it until nothing will move through.

I’ll visit your website.

Thanks,

Lana

Hi Lana,

I'm a C4/5/6 quad in the UK and often suffer AD in the early afternoon but never every day. It generally happens about 1-2 hours after I have eaten for the first time that day. I believe it to be my bowel moving stools from the upper to lower bowel. Perhaps this could be similar for Gabe.

On the part about positive discussion I must admit this list seems to sadly lack in it. Perhaps my website can make you more up beat. www.andycrowe.co.uk

How come Gabe can't operate the pc? There is lots of Assistive technology out there to assist with access. (costly sometimes admittedly)

I have a website showing many of the possibilities and where they can be purchased from. www.at-info.co.uk

Hope this is useful to you and Gabe.

Regards

Andy

Hello again,

My name is Lana and my son Gabe is 32 and has a C4-5 SCI, 10 yrs post. He also has other disabilities. He cannot participate right now. Question: Gabe’s BP goes up in the afternoon around 3:00 everyday. When he lies down it goes right back down. So it appears to be AD to me. He developed a really bad pressure sore in the hospital last summer, but it healed nicely. It is still pink. Is there anything else you guys think it could be? It’s not a UTI. I’m wondering if he has another kidney stone or another syrynx (sp). The timing and positional nature screams pressure sore, but it’s healed. Help!

I just joined again. I have been a member off and on for a number of years. Why all the discussion about issues that do not have anything to do with SCI, disability issues and quality of life? Don’t we really need to discuss advocacy, legislation, life style issues, the slow death of the ADA and celebrate each others wins. Like being a grandpa!! God there is so much to discuss to make life better. We need to address disability discrimination not other types of discrimination.

I used to come here and there were real conversations about these issues. One of my favorite posts was from a person who managed to ride on a motor cycle. She described it in some detail. It inspired me and I’m sure many to do and be more. Break the rules – screw the boundaries. The support and advice I received after my son’s injury kept me sane and in turn kept him sane.

I’m involved in systems advocacy at a State and Federal level. There is so much to do, learn and be. We have so much to do for ourselves, loved ones and each other. Can’t we please give the discrimination of others with different colors of skin alone. Don’t drive off people who are assets here. If you need to discuss these issues go to sites that specialize in it.
