I applied 2 years ago for the NJ Waiver and, after spending 2 hours in
discussion with the rep, learned the only additional perk would be 16 hours
payment for in-home nursing (..."but most only get up to 8 hrs..").
Further that there would be a "cap" placed on payments for all other needs; that
the application would not be considered until such time as I'd secured a home
that met particular specifications (doorways, bathroom and other
accommodations). I live in an apartment building (1-bedroom) that
does not meet their specifications, cannot afford meeting them on my own.
All attempts at securing a Sec. 8 voucher for him has been futile (.."not
accepting new applications at this time because list too long," "keep checking
the newspaper for announcement," "we're waiting to receive vouchers from federal
government," etc.). I've begun to look out of state and he is now
open to a move as well ("...friends and family don't visit that much
anyway.")
This is my primary cause of tears and frustration, in that each day at the
nursing home is a disaster and keeps him on edge. I don't know how much
longer I'll be able to keep his mind and spirits from going over the breaking
point (or my own).
Thanks so much for the opportunity to share and release.
Love,
Irene
