Why do you need 20 hours/day of nursing service? Couldn't a nurse's aid do some of that? Usually nursing (RN/LPN) are for trach care, changing caths, wound care, etc. A nurse aid could get you dressed and up. Companion care can fix/serve meals, do laundry/housekeeping, etc. Have you asked about utilizing companion care and nurse aids more?

I had a meeting with Voc Rehab and Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program (BSCI). Voc Rehab is currently paying tuition, books, and nursing while I'm at school. BSCI pays for my nursing outside of school. Everything has been ok, until the meeting. At the meeting, BSCI told me that they need to cut my services to their guidelines starting in October. Basically what they told me is that if I can't cut my nursing services down to 3 hours a day (I get at least 20 hours a day now) they will terminate me from their program. That means I will not be going to school and I will not be able to move out. My parents would have to take care of me 24/7. This is is so frustrating to me. My condition did not improve enough to not need nursing. I wish it did. How can they help and support me and then tell me to cut back? I can get attendant care and personal care but those people can't give me medication (which I get every 3 hours), they can't cath me, nor can they put oxygen on me (which I sleep with). I told them to put it in writing and I'm going to appeal the process. I'm just so pissed. I don't know what else to do. Thought I'd share. Jeremy Dickinson C-3 Quad, 24 6 1/2 years post
