I have a colostomy I think in some ways it's better in some ways it's not.. I didn't have a choice when I was in my accident I had a lot of trauma and I had to put it in a colostomy. You still have a bowel program about once a month. the problems that I have ran into with mine so far is I have ulcers under my wafer and being that it's somewhat close to my Supra pubic catheter my caregivers really have to watch what they're doing because it could spread the infection.. but it does make things a lot easier on my caregivers, to change the bag it generally takes them less than five minutes. With that being said you always need to bring bags and wafers with you so it adds to what you need to bring with you but not by much.. Hope this helps!

I live in a convescent home and had to go to the hospital 3 days ago in case I went into DR. One of the nurses asked if I had ever considered a colostomy to handle my bowel care. What are the pros and cons on this procedure? Thanks
