I'd say they're both painful and dangerous. I've had one. I had so much trouble with infection at the site that my doc recommended a Medport be implanted in my chest. Best move I ever made. I still have it and it was "installed" in 1998. It does require a once a month "flush and heplock," but my aide does that.
