How long can you keep this kind of port you have in your  body.  You received 
it in 1998.  Did you have to have a general  anesthetic to have it installed?

I'd say they're both painful and dangerous.  I've had  one.  I had so much 
trouble with infection at the site that my doc  recommended a Medport be 
implanted in my chest.  Best move I ever  made.   I still have it and it was 
"installed" in 1998.  It  does require a once a month "flush and heplock," but 
my aide 
does that.   Since this has been a long-term, on-going problem, I'd ask your 
doc about  it.
