Only ONCE (abt 25 yrs ago) and it only takes once unless one wants to be nominated for the Darwin list! My chair weighs 350 pounds so I have never gone anywhere closer than 3 feet to a pool's edge or put myself *in any potentially dangerous territory*. I may be a fool but I'm not stupid. The last thing that happened to me that scared the crap out of me was yesterday. Even though I wear a tight Velcro strap around my waist and the chair... I can still sometimes fall over and am not to get back up. So I do not even venture to lean over unless someone is around.
Anyway... my teenage domestic worker had just started vacuuming in the bedroom. I was in the living room trying to get close to our rolltop desk to look what it said at the top of my magazine on the desktop. *I* do not (and am unableto) use this desk --- it is just a desk for my husband and to put things on. My husband's desk chair's armrest was in close vicinity to my joystick and I was just close enough whereby it pushed into my joystick a little bit... *allowing the chair to move more*... which exacerbated everything! I could not even pull the joystick backward to go in reverse because every time I did *it pushed even harder* into the armrest of the other chair. The other chair was between me and a heavy piano/organ so that is why the other chair could not be moved out of the way. I panicked but then calmed myself down and took a good look at the picture of what was happening -- *even if I moved my body a little bit* ... it was just enough to make everything worse. I do not have the lung capacity to yell/call my teenage helper ovber a vacuum at the other end of the house. Anyway, I was able to nudge the other chair away from my chair a little bit with my elbow...* just enough to stop what could have been much much much worse.* My knees could have been rammed hard constantly into the computer desk but they actually went underneath. I could have been thrown forward and things coulda got worse from there. I NEVER GO LONG DISTANCES (without telling my husband exactly where I will be going) ALONE -- EVEN WITH A PHONE. I went to use my cell phone yesterday and by some fluke it would not recognize my voice commands. It was not low on charge or anything but it was enough to tell me that phones are not 100% reliable either. It was a fluke also because I tried later and it worked just fine. My husband looked at it and it was fine. But I tried to call out nine different times BEFORE THAT without success.
